Yup, no kidding, and something of a suprise to me too. There I was, sitting innocently at my computer one day this fall, when in a puff of smoke (I'm sure the sulpherous odour was merely my imagination) an email appeared from Rick Anderson, ZIP's president. "Just a wild thought", said he, "but have you ever considered our open Content Manager position?" (Quoth the raven, "Nevermore".) This was very flattering (or perhaps a sign that both of us were headed for a long stay at the Tranquil Glades Rest Home), but I wasn't actively looking for a new job. However, the idea didn't seem completely crazy, and so while I was travelling on my vacation in October I made a brief detour through Ottawa and stopped by. I can't remember much about the visit, except that there was some tasty Kool Aid and a large screen with swirling psychedelic patterns...
Anyway, apparently even meeting me in person couldn't deter them; they offered me the job as Content Manager, and I decided to take the leap and accept. I've been with the Bureau of Statistics here in Yellowknife for over 17 years (which doesn't seem possible), and this seemed like an ideal opportunity for a change.
I'll be starting at ZIP in December, and I'll be winding down the updates on dvdinfo.ca. Hopefully they've been useful here and there; it's certainly been interesting fiddling around with it. Spare a kindly thought for a poor rookie content manager when I'm on the other side of the fence...
