Movies For Me

Based in Mississauga, this outfit offers the standard 3 discs for $24.95, but if you live outside Ontario and Quebec, you get 4 discs for the same price! Selection is mediocre at best.

Their customer service is terrible, their web site mentions how you can cancel during your trial period by using this or that section of the site. Well, after using their customer support form to cancel once I realised there was no such area as a cancellation page or section, I was told to call them in my email response. Funny thing is the person on the phone was the one who emailed me (which probably is the only office employee they have since she's always the one I got when I had to call a few times). Why make me call you if you were the one replying to me email request to cancel me. I made sure to empty my cue so they would not send me any new dvds and charge me the first month even though I cancelled, they still charged my card the monthly fee....two days after cancellation and movies had been received by them.

Not impressed by what my experience with them.

M4M big inventory jump

The MoviesForMe website now has a small line saying "Over 12,000 titles", and their database does indeed have inventory numbers past that now. Since this is an instantaneous tripling of their previous levels, they have either had a big infusion of investment capital, or they have loaded titles and will bring them in on demand.

You'd think if it was the former they would have put up a press release or other notice touting the good news. I sent an email to Scott but haven't heard back yet. Does anyone know any current M4M members?

I talked to Scott today. They have indeed loaded a large number of titles into their system (they seem to be at 15,000 now). A lot of it will be "order on demand", but he said they have got a large chunk of new inventory, and are at roughly the 7000 mark of actual stock right now (almost double what they had recently).

This should help them "keep up with the Jones".

I tried these guys for the free trial - and well - the delivery time took about a week to get to my location (across Canada mind you) so I only had 1 day to actually view them before I had to send them back to make sure I wouldn't get charged for the membership. Anyhow, the dvd's got back to them on time - but I still got charged! It took an arm & a leg to cancel the darn thing - and whats the deal with "All memberships must be cancelled by telephone"?? That is a crock! They are just the same as all the other ones, except one of the worst customer service. I will give them a 2 out of 5 overall.

I had problems with Movies for Me as well. Cancelling was unclear. I tried by email, and their live help feature (which wasn't live). Then I got an email stating they were shipping another DVD. This time, I phoned and explained that I cancelled my trial. She told me that they were behind on emails because of the long weekend and would cancel my subscription and pull the DVD from that days mail. The following month, my credit card was billed even though I had cancelled prior to the end of the two week trial. I called and asked them to reverse the charge. They did but at the same time they were billing me for another month of service. I called again and was assured that they would credit this new charge. I also pointed out that I could still log in and there were still movies in my queue so if they were billing me then why weren't they sending anything out. They acknowledged that the acount was closed. I was told that the credit would be put through and they would send me confirmation. Well, the billed me again. Finally, I called (speaking to the same woman each time) and insisted that they do the credit while I was on the phone and fax me the credit vouchers. They did credit me for the 3 months of service but I'm still afraid that there will be another charge on next month's bill.

I've learned my lesson now and will not be using anymore online DVD rental services. See my post on Beware of Zip.ca. As bad as Movies for Me was, at least, they always acknowledged the problem. Zip.ca arrogantly will not acknowledge that they were wrong.

Grrr, I sent an email to moviesforme's customer service on July 28th, asking them to cancel my account at the end of my current billing period of around August 12th (assuming it was close to the bill date on my credit card statement).

Well, I should have realized no response was not a good sign, as they have shipped more DVD's to me.

Funny how they were quick to respond to other customer service issues, but ignore a cancellation request. Hmmm....not impressed
