Ever Heard of Premieres.ca?

Questions and comments on Canadian DVD rental sites

I'm giving Premieres a whirl now and I'm very pleased so far. Great customer service, fast shipping, and good availability of new releases. For my initial choices I put three new releases in the top spots, titles that I would have to wait weeks to get from either Zip or Cinemail, and all three discs where shipped to me right away. For this kind of top-notch service, I'm willing to put up with the clunky Web site.

Still on trial but I will be continuing. I've given Zip the boot, but I still have my account with Cinemail for some older, rarer titles that Premieres doesn't carry.

Joined up this week on a trial basis and am impressed so far. A refreshing change from Zip since they actually managed to send me releases out of my top 10 (if not top 5)! They certainly don't have the same selection as Zip, and lacking in the TV department, but I think I'll stick around for at least a month or two!

Shipping times took about 2 days, so on par with Zip. The priority list is definity a pain though! I'd much rather see a numbered list like Zip or Cinemail rather than having to manually shift every disc individually up or down.

I joined on April 26 and so far I've had the following titles shipped to me:

Déjà Vu
The Queen
The Last King of Scotland
Bobby
El Topo
Rocky Balboa
Blood Diamond
Idiocracy
Shortbus

All new releases, discs that I would never have a chance of getting from either Zip or Cinemail. Plus, I'm getting next-day shipping from nearby Kitchener.

For this, I'll put up with the clunky web site. :)

Well, I'm throwing my hat in and joining today for the 2 week trial. I'm sick and tired of getting every OLD title around that's sitting on a shelf at ZIP. I'm keeping zip for the more obscure titles for the moment and I have a free slot, so I will use that up. But I hardly ever get a new title anymore.

I do wish that Premieres had more divisions, so it would be easier to find the movies.

Anyone want to take a guess at how long it will take for me to get The Big Lebowski, which seems not to be stocked at Premieres, but currently 5th on my Zip List. Let's see how this goes. I'm in Montreal, shipping to and from Zip has been 2 to 3 days each way... painfully slow. And some of the titles have been shipping from the west coast, which takes 5 to 7 business days.

Of course, if it was up to me, I'd move your #8 up to #1. :)

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for your discs to get to Montreal. I usually get one-day delivery, but then again I'm right next-door to Kitchener (Premiere's headquarters)...although that rarely means much when it comes to Canada Post.

Nothing but praise here for Premieres, but I wish they'd remain a well kept secret (yes I'm selfish)

1. Getting new releases is sooo much easier than with Zip, because they ARE a smaller operation. I'm usually sent discs from my #1-4 positions always.

2. I asked them to add a title to inventory, which they not only did, but also informed me when it was actually added - something I don't think Zip has done in the past.

3. When I was sent Fantastic Four Extended Cut, they also included the movie cash coupon for the sequel, which was a very classy touch. <Granted they could only do this for the 1st person that requested a copy, but still>

4. They DO carry quite a few of the newer/extended cuts that Zip refuses to add to inventory.

The only real downside is they don't have a huge wide ranging inventory outside of new releases, and are very weak on TV on DVD.

I received my first shipment today (4 July 2007). Arrived in a nice white envelope. In fact their envelopes seem more substantial than those used by ZIP. All but one was in a vinyl sleeve, the last one being a paper sleeve. Return envelopes were clean white paper envelopes with their name on them and actual stamps. The sleeve's had nicely printed labels on them (okay, they can save a few pennies by not using colour, but it was a nice touch) and they are in excellent condition.

A nice touch would have been a welcome letter from them in the envelope, but so far, I'm impressed with the titles and speed.
